About the Event
Equanimity has a myriad of definitions, but they all have something to do with calm and evenness in temper, no matter the environment or circumstances. In Insight Meditation, equanimity involves the absence of craving and aversion: we do not spend energy wanting, attaching or grasping, and we also do not spend energy avoiding, denying, or pushing away. Allowing, accepting, becoming curious without judgment- these are all things we can practice regularly. Imagine an experience wherein you do not suppress or deny your feelings as they arise. Imagine an experience wherein you can enjoy the beauty of an experience, unattached, just as it is, and not feel the grief and let-down as it comes to an end. What does a practice in equanimity look like? How do we practice this is our daily lives, in the mundane moments, and then apply it to more charged circumstances? This week, we spend the beginning portion of our time with a mindfulness practice of equanimity.
