I heard an interview with German composer Max Richter on NPR months ago. he is prolific having written many stand alone pieces, albums, and orchestrations for movies. in this interview, he discussed his piece called SLEEP.
it is composed of several hundred tracks lasting over 8 hours. at its premiere, he said, cots were provided.
I have listened to it at night, through the night, upon waking, during the day. as a choral singer, I have listened to and sung music all my life. the melodies can be distracting. SLEEP begins with a metronomic pulse. it requires and refuses any humming along other than an omm kind of meditative sound.
it has become kind of a companion for me. it is soothing and restful yet complex in its patterns.
and lastly, it introduced me to a piece of his that was in a TV series called TABOO. it is called Lamentation For A Lost Life. I do not know the series but this melodic piece reminds me of our work here.
