What Makes You Feel Alive?

Disney’s movie “Soul” (2020) touches on all kinds of themes that we have discussed at Sunset Circle: one’s purpose, the aliveness and human experience of the senses, and what happens after we die. In the movie, the characters often talk about the “spark”, which the main character, Joe, at times interprets as one’s purpose. But “spark” actually means something more like aliveness, and what it means to have enthusiasm to live for the sake of living (the movie gives the example of pizza, which might be universally relatable). What are the sparks in your life? What moments take you out of your thoughts and into the simple (and not necessarily easy) act of living? What parts of “regular old living” are actually moments that you truly appreciate, that make you feel alive?

While "Soul" is not freely available on streaming services other than Disney, it IS available to rent, though not for cheap. That said, I'd highly recommend it as a lovely animation that provides many thought-provoking insights and themes about life, death, life after death, and purpose.
