What Do You Hunger and Thirst For?

During VSED, or Voluntarily Stopping Eating and Drinking, one opts to refrain from all food and drink to hasten the natural dying process. When we shift the focus from physiological to metaphorical hunger and thirst, we begin to examine what drives us. What do you (figuratively) hunger and thirst for? 

We have likely all experienced intense hunger, where you’re grumpy, irritable, and can think of nothing but the fact that you have to eat, and you have to eat now. Ideally, we have not experienced true, deep, lasting hunger. But we can all at least imagine the feeling of a hunger that drives us only to food, and nothing else. Similarly, we have all experienced the feeling of intense thirst on a hot day after exertion, when we might not even be thinking clearly because we need only something to drink, and nothing else. From a symbolic standpoint, what do you hunger for? What do you thirst for? What drives you, provides meaning? How do you satiate yourself? How do you quench your proverbial thirst? What is it about this hunger and thirst that makes you feel alive?
