About the Event
Everywhere we look, we see advertisements for anti-aging products that promise to eliminate wrinkles, hide signs of aging, and make you look half your age. According to Statista, “The global anti-aging market was valued at around 62 billion U.S. dollars in 2021 and is expected to increase to some 93 billion by 2027”.
Youth is glorified, while aging is almost scorned. And yet, aging is something that happens to all of us, whether we want it to or not. We don't blame a tree for having more rings, so why does it seem so personal when humans show signs of aging, particularly women? And anti-aging messaging isn’t limited to our appearance. Emphasis on the newest and shiniest thing is also everywhere: why fix up your favorite but old and rusty bike when you can get a shiny new one?
What influence does the media have on our views of aging? How does anti-aging messaging impact you?
And, how can we flip the script? The Death Positive Movement promotes awareness, discussion and meaning around the natural event of death. How can we be Age Positive, and promote aging in a meaningful, appreciative and honest way?
