About the Event
Practicing death? Huh?Â
In South Korea, there is a new practice that is catching on: people are simulating their own death for a new perspective on life. This takes a different approach than Maranasati, or death meditation. Here, the practice includes more tangible exercises, like lying in a coffin, writing letters to those they love, and more. After the simulation, participants describe a sense of urgency to reconcile and forgive and encouragement to keep on living. In a country where an increasing number of people are dying by suicide, many report benefit from this simulation. We have mentioned at times how meaningful it could be to have a celebration of life with the person still there, before death, so that they can experience the love and celebration while alive- this is not so very different. What might learning about this practice offer for you?
